Mapledene's Got Talent
A huge well done to all of the children that participated in this year's 'Mapledene's Got Talent'! They demonstrated that we really are a talented school and it was a fantastic part of 'We' Week.
A beary big thank you to everybody who came along to the Bear Fayre! We managed to raise a whopping £340 for Birmingham Children's Hospital in this event alone.
Thank you to all of the children that came along to Bearobics! Everybody, including Rory the Bear, had a great time dancing along to animal songs.
Dress as a Bear/PJ Day
The children (and teachers) all enjoyed coming to school dressed as bears or in their pyjamas as part of our Big Sleuth fundraising. Thank you to all that donated.
Big Sleuth Committee
These children have been hand picked to be part of our Big Sleuth Committee. They will be supporting Miss Ellgood and Miss Johnson with the design aspect of the project and some of the fundraising.
Big Sleuth Update:
Through the children's ideas from the 'Design a Bear' competition and a meeting with our teachers we have reached a final design for Rory the Bear! It is top secret... all will be revealed after Easter.
The Big Sleuth
We are very excited to be part of Birmingham's 'Big Sleuth' this year. This is a project which raises money for Birmingham Children's Hospital and requires us to design a bear that will become part of a trail in Birmingham City Center over the summer. There will be lots of activities happening over the next term including a teddy bears picnic and a bear fair.
Keep you eyes peeled for info on the events and to see what our very own bear has been up to!
Children in Need
Thank you to everyone that donated to Children in Need- whether it was by wearing non-uniform or entering the 'Design a jumper for Pudsey' competition.
All of the children in the school had great fun on art day! They experimented with action painting techniques based on the work of Jackson Pollock and as well as making a terrific mess, also managed to create some superb final pieces.
Thanks to all of the staff and children involved in our Sports Relief Activity Day! We managed to raise £140 which will go towards helping others who are less fortunate than ourselves across the UK and abroad. Take a look at some of the photos from our spectacular sporting day...
On March 9th, a group from Year 6 travelled to London to take part in 'We Day.' 'We Day' is a celebration of youth making a difference in their local and global communities. As part of the 'We Schools' community we take part in a program that nurtures compassion in young people and gives them the tools to create transformational social change. Together they offer young people the tools and the inspiration to take social action, empower others and transform lives—including their own.
"It was a very early start but I loved it." Josiah Year 6
" We have already started thinking of ways to make money...to make a difference!"
Molly and Lily Year 6
Over 12,000 children were invited to the event!
With lots of famous people as well as school children giving an insight into troubles they have experienced and how they overcame them!
And then there was the entertainment...
Take One Picture
The whole school have enjoyed creating pieces of work based on the piece of art 'The Castle of Muiden in the Winter.' Some year groups produced their own piece of art, stories, letters, junk models and much more! Please take a look at our handywork:
