Welcome to Cherry!

Hello and welcome to Cherry. On this page, you will find all the information you will need linked to Year 5 and our class. If you have any questions, please just come and speak to a member of the Year 5 team who will be happy to help.

Who works in Cherry?

Miss Cook is the class teacher.

Mr Collett is the teacher in Cedar.

Mrs Aqib supports Year 5 in the afternoons.

Year 5 Meet and Greet

Please look through the PowerPoint Presentation from our Meet and Greet session to find out more about Year 5.

  • Welcome to Year 5 and Year 6 parents.pdf

Timetable

Please see below the timetable for Cherry.

Please note PE lessons will take place on a Tuesday, so the children need their PE kit in school on this day.

Also, our library day will be on a Wednesday, every other week. This will be the children’s opportunity to go and change their library book in the brand-new school library.

Uniform Expectations

It is important that the children come to school in the correct uniform. Please see our school uniform policy to check whether your child has the right school uniform. PE kit also needs to be correct. If the children forget their PE kit, they will be given some from in school to change into.

Homework

In Year 5, Homework will be set on a Friday. This will include a Maths task linked to the learning we have done in school, an English task and some spellings. These tasks will be in a yellow ‘homework’ book.

Homework is due back in on the following Friday and spellings will be tested through dictation on a Friday morning.

If homework is not completed, the children will be kept in at lunchtime to complete the tasks.

If you have any questions about homework, please speak to the class teacher.

Reading Records

Reading is an important skill and the children should be reading for at least 10 minutes every day.

Every child in Cherry has a reading record and a reading book. This should be in school every day and be taken at home at the end of every day so that you can read with your child at home. Please record in your child’s reading record when they have read at home so we can keep a record of their reading. These will be checked regularly by the class teacher. Don’t forget – they can read books from home too, not just the books provided by school!
