Year 6 Swimming Outcomes 2025-2026
At Mapledene, swimming is delivered on-site through our partnership with Swim:ED.

Children in Years 3 and 5 participated in daily swimming lessons for three weeks. In addition, some pupils, including Year 6 children who did not achieve the 25m standard last year, received an additional week of intensive tuition.
All children were taught to swim and perform safe self-rescue by qualified swimming instructors, with every session overseen by a fully qualified lifeguard, ensuring high-quality instruction alongside rigorous safety standards.
Delivering swimming lessons daily not only improved children’s confidence in the water but also significantly increased the number achieving the expected outcomes.
Impact and Outcomes
82% of pupils were able to swim at least 25 metres.
91% of pupils were able to use a range of strokes effectively.
89% of pupils were able to perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
The intensive block model has proven highly effective in accelerating progress, improving water confidence, and increasing the proportion of pupils meeting national curriculum expectations for swimming.
