So many reasons to celebrate: it's Friday, the heatwave is coming to an end and hopefully, tomorrow night, England men will top their group and go through to the knockout phase of the World Cup.

Before all of that, let's get going with our work for today.

Spelling

Spelling homework is due in today. Please practise your spellings, ready for our test on Monday.

  • Stage 6 - Lesson 24 - Challenge Words - Teaching Slides.pptx
  • Stage 6 - Lesson 24 - Challenge Words - Homework Sheet.pdf

Reading

By now, you should know your lines without having to use your script. This is important as Monday and Tuesday, we have two big rehearsal days. If you are not still confident, then use this time to complete learning your lines.

If you already know your lines, then please grab yourself a cool drink, a cushion and sit somewhere shady with your favourite book. Today, I am reading 'Why the Whales Came' by Michael Morpurgo.

Maths

Today, we would like you to recap on your understanding of co-ordinates (Miss Faulkner's group, you were brilliant at beating me at Battleships when we last practised this!). Use the BBC Bitesize page, and especially watch the video and play the quiz.

When you have done this, please complete your allocated task on My Maths. Remember, all tasks should be completed by Monday.

  • Plotting co-ordinates in four quadrants

Science

During our Science lessons this term, we have been investigating what makes a healthy lifestyle. We have talked about a variety of factors, such as: diet, exercise, sleep and even use of social media.

Today, we would like you to investigate the harmful effects of smoking. Using the power point, find out which harmful chemicals are contained within cigarettes, and the effect these have on your body-particularly your heart and lungs.

When you have investigated, choose a way to present you information. You can use the fact file template we have provided, or create your own poster or video. Be as creative as you like!

  • Smoking power point.pptx
  • Effects of smoking factfile.pdf

Once again, well done for keeping up with your learning.

Have a wonderful weekend-we can't wait to see you again on Mondaysmiley

Good morning Maple. It was great to see how many of you visited the page yesterday. It really demonstrates what a wonderful attitude you have towards your learning. Today's work is as follows.

Writing

For writing today, recap how to use a semi colon. Recap your understanding of the role of co-ordinating conjunctions (remember the poster from our working wall- FANBOYS) then move onto the page about semi colons. Complete the quizzes on both pages.

  • Co-ordinating conjunctions
  • Semi colons

Reading

Like yesterday, please continue to learn your script, ensuring that you can remember your lines and your cues. Keep thinking about how your voice can bring your character to life.

Watch this clip of the Trunchbull throwing Amanda Thripp. Notice how her voice moves up and down to imply menace. It is a real skill to bring emotion to you character. Think about how your character is feeling in the scene that you are practising, then make your voice show this feeling.

Miss Trunchbull's Hammer Throw (Clip) | Matilda (1996) | TBS

Watch Matilda on TBS. It's Matilda's (Mara Wilson) first day at Crunchem Hall, and it's everything she feared and more. Miss Trunchbull (Pam Ferris) runs a tight ship at Crunchem Hall, and pigtails are a one-way ticket out, literally. Just ask Amanda Thripp (Jacqueline Steiger).

Maths

The weather's so warm that I've started dreaming about negative numbers. Specifically, the temperature of a freezer full of ice lollies!

Today, please use the BBC Bitesize page to check your understanding of these tricky numbers. Make sure that you watch the videos and complete the quizzes.

When you have finished, login to your My Maths page and complete your task on negative numbers. The pass mark is 70% so take your time to be accurate.

When you have completed your task, reward yourself with an ice lolly and enjoy how wonderful negative numbers are!

Art

Quentin Blake is a fascinating illustrator. Using an old fashioned pen, his distinctive style really brings Roald Dahl's characters to life. Watch the tutorial, then have a go at drawing your own version of Matilda. If you want a challenge, using the same style, have a go at drawing yourself!

How to Draw & paint Matilda Real Easy

If you've completed that, why not watch this video of Quentin Blake creating a monster. Once you have watched it, have a go at creating one of your own!

Quentin Blake draws a Hornswoggler

Draw along with Quentin Blake as he draws one of the mythical unseen monsters from Roald Dahl's books. Filmed in 2014 in Quentin's archive.

Music

In Music, we have been working hard to learn all of the songs for Matilda. Please use the videos to practise the songs. If you have a solo part, please practise this as well.

Have a wonderful day. Remember to keep well hydrated and apply lots of sunscreen if you go out in the sun.

Good morning Maple!

Because of today's heat, we would like you to complete some home learning, Please have a go at the activities below.

Writing

Work your way through the BBC Bitesize link on active and passive voice. Watch the video first, then have a go at the  quizzes.

  • Active and Passive

Reading

Please take some time to continue to read through your script, learning the lines for your character. We are aiming to be script free by next week. Remember to learn both your lines and the cues that comes before them.

Maths

How Do I Calculate Square and Cube Numbers? | KS2 Maths Concept for Kids

In this video learners will be supported by an experienced KS2 maths teacher to calculate square and cube numbers. Teachers will love using this video as a supporting tool because it can be used in a variety of ways: maths lesson starters, independent maths learning, square and cube numbers homework and SATs maths revision!

Let's recap our knowledge on square and cube numbers. Watch the video above and practise the questions you are asked.

Then, please log onto your My Maths account and complete the task that I have set. Please also ensure that all other homework tasks are complete.

DT

For DT  this term, we will be designing and sewing a school badge for Crunchem Hall. Today, please think about the values that Miss Trunchbull might think important and create your school logo. The colours we are going to use are: red, yellow, black and white.

History

Use the BBC Bitesize webpage to find out about Crime and Punishment in Tudor England. Once you have have researched it, choose a way to present what you have found out. For example, you could create a poster or a PPT or even a video!

  • Tudor Crime and Punishment

Have a lovely day. Please make sure that you keep hydrated and use lots of sunscreen if you play outside.

Snow Day!

Because of today’s snow, we’d like you to have a go at some home learning if you can. Below are three links with fun activities you can choose from-just pick what works best for you, there’s no need to do everything.

English

Over the last few weeks, we have been working hard to use semi colons to join two main clauses. Watch this video, then use this website to practise this skill.

Maths

Miss Smith's and Miss Sanders group

Once you’ve finished turning into mini snowpeople and are back inside getting warm, I would like you to have a look at the ratio activities.

  • The first two activities are revision of what we have covered over the last three lessons.

  • The final section, “Using scale factors,” introduces the learning you will be covering on Monday. If you would like to get a head start, this would be a great activity to try.

⭐ P.S. We will give a star to anyone who can come and tell us the mistake in the second activity: “Converting between ratios, fractions and percentages”!

  • Ratio

Miss Faulkner's and Mrs Milnes' groups

We have been focusing on adding and subtracting proper fractions and mixed numbers. Watch this video, then have a go at the examples on the website.
