At Mapledene, Science is led by Miss Sanders, who also teachers Cedar class.

Science is taught through a carefully planned and progressive curriculum that follows the National Curriculum, providing children with the knowledge and skills needed to understand the world around them. Our curriculum enables pupils to explore key scientific concepts across biology, chemistry and physics, while developing the skills needed to think and work like scientists, including asking questions, making predictions, carrying out investigations, analysing results and drawing conclusions.

Through engaging and practical lessons, children are encouraged to develop curiosity about the world, explore how things work and develop a deeper understanding of scientific ideas. We provide opportunities for children to investigate, experiment and apply their learning to real-life contexts, while building confidence in using scientific vocabulary and explaining their thinking.

Science lessons are hands-on, purposeful and designed to inspire curiosity, encouraging children to become enthusiastic learners who question, investigate and develop an appreciation of the role science plays in everyday life.
