At Mapledene, Geography is coordinated by Miss Faulkner, who also teaches Cedar class.

Geography is taught through a carefully planned and progressive scheme of learning that develops children’s understanding of the world around them, from their local environment to places and communities across the globe. Our curriculum enables pupils to explore physical and human geography, while developing the skills needed to think like geographers, including collecting and interpreting data, using maps, asking questions and making connections between people, places and environments.

Through engaging and meaningful lessons, children are encouraged to develop curiosity about the world, broaden their understanding of diverse cultures and communities, and appreciate the relationship between humans and the natural environment. We provide opportunities for children to investigate real-world issues, use geographical vocabulary confidently and apply their knowledge through practical activities and fieldwork.

Geography lessons are purposeful, inspiring and designed to nurture children’s curiosity, helping them to become informed, responsible citizens who understand their place within the wider world.
