At Mapledene, History is coordinated by Miss Faulkner, who also teaches Cedar class.

History is taught through a carefully planned and progressive scheme of learning that develops children’s understanding of the past and its impact on the world today. Our curriculum enables pupils to explore significant events, people and historical periods, while developing the skills needed to think like historians, including asking questions, analysing evidence, making connections and forming opinions.

Through engaging and meaningful lessons, children are encouraged to develop curiosity about the past, broaden their knowledge of different societies and cultures, and understand how historical events have shaped the world around them. We provide opportunities for children to investigate, discuss and interpret a range of sources, helping them to build confidence in using historical vocabulary and explaining their ideas.

History lessons are immersive, thought-provoking and designed to inspire children’s curiosity, encouraging them to become reflective learners who appreciate the importance of understanding the past.
