At Mapledene, Physical Education (PE) is coordinated by Mrs Donaldson, who also teaches Aspen class.

PE is taught through our carefully designed scheme of learning, aligned with Twinkl Move. This provides a structured approach to developing pupils’ fundamental movement skills, physical competence and confidence across a wide range of sports and physical activities. The curriculum enables children to build on prior learning, improve their fitness, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and foster a lifelong enjoyment of being physically active.

PE lessons are engaging, active and inclusive, ensuring every child is appropriately challenged and supported to achieve their personal best. Through a variety of individual and team activities, pupils develop resilience, determination, fair play and respect, while understanding the importance of leading healthy, active lifestyles.

Competition is an important part of our wider PE offer. Children are given regular opportunities to take part in competitive sports within school, as well as to represent Mapledene in competitions and events with other schools. These experiences broaden pupils’ sporting opportunities, allow them to apply their skills in different settings and develop teamwork, sportsmanship, confidence and resilience, while experiencing both the challenge and enjoyment of competitive sport.
