Year 4
Welcome to Year 4!
Artwork inspired by The Iron Man by Ted Hughes

Making Torches
Our search for the scattered pieces of the Iron Man can finally begin, now that we have made our working torches.
Electrifying

This term has been very illuminating...literally! We have been learning all about circuits and how to create a completed circuit to make a light bulb light up, a buzzer buzz or a motor spin. It has been quite a challenge but as you can see, we were very successful with our light bulb moments.
TEETH!!!
We were fortunate enough to have some dental experts from Orthodontic Excellence in Solihull visit and tell us all about how to look after our teeth. The highlight was using the disclosing tablets to see how well we actually brushed our teeth. Some of us were better than others...but we won't mention any names!
It was a really informative experience and we learnt loads about dental hygiene.
The Big Bowel Experiment
Have you ever wondered how excrement (poo!!!) is made???
Well today year 4 found out when they created their own bowels and digested some food. As you can see, it was very messy, very yucky and very educational...it was also a lot of fun.
The Library is Amazing
Save our Seas

How Do Undersea Trenches Form???
Using the scientific equipment, crackers and shaving foam...we investigated how tectonic plates move against each other to create deep undersea trenches.
Under The Sea
Our classes are named 4 Singh and 4 Zephaniah, read on to find out more about each famous person with a connection to Birmingham.
4 Zephaniah is named after Benjamin Zephaniah a poet, lyricist and author who lived in Birmingham. He wrote lots of poems about his life and things he believed in and was also an excellent performer. His writing also talked lots about his Jamaican heritage.
Have a listen to him performing one of our favourite poems ‘Talking Turkeys’ here:
4 Singh is named after Malkit Singh who is a famous Punjabi Bhangra musician who moved to Birmingham in 1984. He has written many famous songs and was even recognised for his work by Queen Elizabeth II as he was given an MBE.
