2022-2023
Traditional Tales
Week Beginning: 30th January 2023
This week we have been learning all about
Jack and the Beanstalk
This week we couldn't believe our eyes when a beanstalk appeared in our classrooms! It was such a tall beanstalk and right at the bottom was a golden egg. We looked for clues to see who had left us the egg!
In maths we have been using the vocabulary 'tall and short' to describe height. We discovered who was the tallest and shortest in the class and we ordered the beanstalks in height order.
We have enjoyed creating beanstalks in different ways and explored paper mache when making our own golden eggs.
We also challenged ourselves to climb the beanstalks in P.E.
We were so resilient!
We can't wait to see what 'Traditional Tale' we are learning about next week.
Traditional Tales
Week Beginning: 23rd January 2023
This week we have been learning all about
The Three Little Pigs
This week we were so shocked to see that the Big Bad Wolf had been up to no good! In Starling's class he had blown our house down and in Kingfisher's class he had ran away after being very big and bad! We had to find him, so we created WANTED posters, to try and track him down. He eventually came back and said sorry. He also promises to be a very good wolf from now on!
We have also enjoyed exploring different materials. We have discussed what different objects are made from and why. What is their purpose? We have loved looking at how paper and glass are made too!
Look at all the fun we have had this week:
Traditional Tales
Week Beginning: 16th January 2023
This week we have been learning all about
The Three Billy Goats Gruff
This week we have been designing and building. We have designed a new bridge for the goats, as their one had broken! Before we did this, we explored bridges from around the world and looked at the materials they were made from. Which material was the best to use and why? We then had a go at building the bridge from this material! Have a look at our amazing bridges.
We also used our imaginations to build bridges from the loose parts; deciding how long our bridge needed to be, to reach the other side.
In maths, we have focused on capacity. We have used the language full, nearly full, half full, half empty, nearly empty, empty and overflowing to describe the capacity of the containers. We have also estimated how many cups of pasta it might take to fill a measuring cylinder, and understood that different sized containers will hold a different capacity of pasta, depending on its shape and size.
In P.E we have explored going under and over the different apparatus and we have begun a new investigation...
What does grass need to grow?
We have also explored the celebration of Chinese New Year.
What a busy week!
Traditional Tales
Week Beginning: 9th January 2023
This week we have been learning all about
Goldilocks and The Three Bears.
We have been exploring weight using scales and porridge. Which bag of porridge was the lightest and which was the heaviest? We used the language 'lighter' and 'heavier' when describing and comparing.
We couldn't believe our eyes when Goldilocks came into the three bears cottage and broke baby bears chair and ate all the porridge! What a mess!
We have been creating bears and Goldilocks in many different ways. We have been so creative!
We have created story maps to retell the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have been so animated when retelling the story, using lots of narrative! We have loved learning all about Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
