Maths:
Miss Johnson and Miss Cook’s group:
Can you complete a Daily 10 to get your mind warmed up for Maths today. Challenge yourself to choose a topic that pushes you out of your comfort zone and you know you need to practise.
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10
Today, we are going to apply our learning of subtraction with exchanges to answer a selection of word problems and other questions. You will need to use either jottings or the formal written method to help you. If you need a reminder, watch the video below. If you are confident with these methods, have a go at the bronze, silver or gold sheet.
Mrs Wells' group:
Today, we are continuing to count in our 10s.
Watch this supermovers video to get yourself warmed up and counting in your 10s.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers/ks1-maths-the-10-times-table-with-webster-the-spider/zm32cqt
Get your number cards from yesterday out and lay them in order on the floor. Can you count forwards? Can you count backwards? Walk up and down your line of numbers to help you with your counting. If an adult takes a number away, can you tell them what it is?
Now have a go at the worksheet below. You need to use your knowledge of the 10 times table to help you work out the answers. Remember to look closely at the dienes to see what questions are being represented.

Today we are recapping our learning on prefixes. Can you remember what a prefix is? Watch the video below to recap:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z8mxrwx/articles/z9hjwxs
Today, we are focusing on the prefixes ‘super-‘, ‘anti-‘ and ‘auto-‘. Can you think of any words that include these prefixes? What do they mean?
Watch Miss Cook’s video below:
Once you have watched the video, have a go at the worksheet below.
Mrs Wells’ Group:
A couple of weeks ago, you started re-writing the story about Jack and the Beanstalk. Today, you are going to write the next part. Watch the video below to hear the next part of the story.

What has happened in this part of the story?
Have a watch of Miss Johnson’s video what we need to include in our writing. Once you have watched the video, have a go at writing your own sentences to re-tell the video that you have just watched.
Children’s Mental Health Week:
Today is…
What does it mean to be ‘friendly’? In school we are friendly to each other in the classroom, playground and other areas of school. Can you think of something friendly you have done in school? This could be helping a friend, member of staff, letting someone play your game or anything else.
Today, we would like you to think about the funniest time you have had with a friend. What happened? Tell someone you are with all about this moment. How did it make you feel?
Speaking or seeing our friends can make us smile and cheer us up! I know when I speak to my friends; we talk to each other, are there for each other and make each other laugh. At the moment, we cannot meet up with our friends but you don’t always need to be with someone to have fun. Try making contact with one of your friends today to just have a chat, make them smile or play a game. It might be a message, email, phone call or video call.
Art:
As part of children’s mental health week, we would like you to create a piece of art work that represents you. As you know, the theme for this week is ‘express yourself’. We would like you to create a piece of artwork that expresses yourself. For example:
-
A piece of artwork that represents how you feel at the time
-
Something you like or enjoy
-
Something that makes you smile
-
A self-portrait
You can use any art materials you have to create this piece of artwork. You could use a pencil and paper, paints, colouring pencils, collage materials, recycled materials, clay, play-doh etc.
Miss Johnson and I cannot wait to see what you create and would love to share these with the rest of Year 3 so don’t forget to send them to advice@mapledeneschool.com
ICT:
In computing this week, we are continuing to look at coding. Re-watch this video which starts to explain what coding is.
Once you have watched the video, head to the link below and follow the instructions:
https://studio.code.org/s/mc/stage/1/puzzle/1
2:45pm ZOOM – WONDERFUL WORK!
This afternoon, we are having a zoom meeting to share our amazing work with each other from this week. If you have something you are really proud of that you have done this week, have it with you ready to share with your friends. If you don’t have it with you, you can tell us about it!
You do not have to bring work to share today that is fine. You can still join the meeting to see what your friends have been up to this week and say ‘hello!’.
Miss Johnson and I cannot wait to see you all and the amazing work you have been doing at home.
Don’t forget you can show us all you work by sending it via email to advice@mapledeneschool.com

Miss Johnson and Miss Cook’s group:
Can you remember what we were learning about in yesterday’s lesson? Well done if you remembered that we were learning how to subtract numbers with exchanges. Can you think of any other words that mean the same as subtract?
In today’s lesson, we are going to continue to practise our taking away skills. During the lesson, you may want to use the formal written method or you may want to use jottings. It is important that you do whatever you feel confident with.
Re-watch Miss Cook’s video below and help her remember how to subtract numbers with exchanges.
Once you have watched the video, have a go at the worksheets below. Some questions are word problems and some are just number sentences.
Mrs Wells' group:

Today, we are going to be looking at a new story called ‘One Day on our Blue Planet: In the Rainforest’ by Ella Bailey.
Look at the front cover. Who do you think the main character is? What do you think might happen in the story?
Watch the video below where Miss Cook will read you this story.
Today we are going to be using the book to write some interesting sentences about the rainforest and the monkey’s adventure. We would like you to have a go at improving Miss Cook’s boring sentences. Remember, you can use fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and conjunctions to make your sentences more interesting.
Mrs Wells’ Group:
In English today, we are going to be looking at making our sentences more interesting by using the conjunction ‘because’.
Watch the video below to recap the learning you have done before continuing with our lesson today.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z6rvbdm
We use ‘because’ to explain why. Have a go at the worksheet below and see if you can add ‘because’ to these sentences to explain why. The first one has been done for you.
Zoom @ 11:45am - Recording of our Rainforest Dance
Join us at 11:45am to record the rainforest dance for our class assembly. If you do not wish for your child to take part, please do not join the meeting.
You may want to practise the dance before the zoom meeting. You can find the video on our main class page.

See Miss Cook’s example below:
P.E:
Today, we are going to continue to think about movement and balance and apply this to some learning about yoga.
Below you start the video below, make sure you have a clear space and are wearing comfortable clothes. You can choose to do this activity in bear feet or wearing trainers or pumps.
Watch and join in with the video below.

If you would like to try some more yoga to extend your PE lesson, try out one of the links below.
You could come back to these links to do at another time too.
Music:
As it is Children’s Mental Health Week this week, I thought it would be good to remind ourselves of the song ‘It’s OK! Just say’. Sing or sign along depending on where you are and really listen to the message that the words are telling you. Remember, to talk to someone if you are not feeling OK.
I also have a new song for you to learn this week. First of all, click on the link below to warm up your bodies and voices. Make you sure you have clicked on the tab ‘Move to the Pulse’ and have fun following the actions.

Miss Johnson & Miss Cook’s Group:
Today, we are going to be looking at facts and opinions. What is the difference between a fact and an opinion?
Facts are things that are true and can be backed with evidence.
Opinions are things that we feel and think.
In our non-chronological reports, we are going to need to use facts because our report is factual about the rainforest.
Have a watch of this video about facts and opinions. Have a go at the games and tasks on this website too after watching the video.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zs44jxs/articles/z3wgqhv
Using your knowledge of facts and opinions have a go at identifying whether my sentences are facts or opinions. Can you spot what tells you they are facts or opinions?
Mrs Wells’ Group:
In English today, we are going to be looking at making our sentences more interesting by using the word ‘and’.
Watch the video below to recap the learning you have done before continuing with our lesson today.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zmqtnrd
Have a go at expanding Miss Cook’s sentences below using the conjunction ‘and’:
I go to the park.
I play with my toys.
I jump in the puddle.
Once you have had a go at expanding Miss Cook’s sentences, watch the video below.
This video will be uploaded on Wednesday morning.
Now, have a go at the worksheet below. Can you use the conjunction ‘and’ correctly?
11:45am – Zoom (Wellbeing Wednesday)
Last week for Wellbeing Wednesday, we spoke about how we do P.E to keep our bodies healthy and what we can do to keep our minds healthy. One of the things we said was that laughing cheers us up and has a positive impact.
We have enjoyed seeing all your videos, photos and messages about how you got on with last week’s challenge. It looks like you all had a lot of fun!
Join Miss Cook, Miss Johnson and Mrs Wells for Wellbeing Wednesday today at 11:45am. This week Mrs Wells has set our fun challenge so join our meeting to see if you can beat Miss Cook, Miss Johnson and Mrs Wells or to just laugh with your friends.
Children’s Mental Health Week Challenge:
Today is…
What is a ‘wish’? Can you think of any other words for ‘wishes’?
Did you say any of these?
-
Dreams
-
Hopes
-
Goals
-
Ambitions
Today, we would like you to make a list of 3 things you CAN do and 1 thing you WISH you could do. Think about your wish and write it on a piece of paper in a big star. Around your wish, think about the things you need to do to achieve this.
See Miss Cook’s example below:
Geography:
This week, we will be bringing together some of the learning we have done so far on the rainforest. Today we are recapping the layers of the rainforest and thinking about the different animals that live there.
Can you remember the 4 layers of the rainforest?
What animals live in the different layers?
Watch the video below (this is the same as last week) to recap the different layers of the rainforest and discover some of the animals you may find there.
This week, we would like you to write your own report on the layers of the rainforest and the animals that live there. Have a look at Miss Cook’s WAGOLL below. Once you have read the WAGOLL, have a go at writing your own.
Remember to include all the features we have been looking at in English too such as pictures, sub-headings, paragraphs, fronted adverbials, conjunctions and expanded noun phrases. Once it is complete, send it to advice@mapledeneschool.com because we would like some to go onto our rainforest displays in school.
Below, there is a sheet for you to write your report. You can choose to use this template or write it on your own piece of paper.
Spanish:
This week, we are going to be learning some new vocabulary based on animals. Do you know any animals in Spanish already?
Watch the video with Miss Cook to learn some animals in Spanish. Don’t forget to join in and repeat the words after Miss Cook!
Once you have watched the video, play some of the games on the website below. Make sure the selection is animals.

Miss Johnson & Miss Cook’s Group:
Yesterday, in Maths we looked at subtracting 2-digit and 3-digit numbers using jottings, the formal written method or mentally. Today, we are going to move on to exchanging. We are going to have a go at using dienes to support us with our learning. We will be continuing to look at exchange throughout the week so don’t worry if you aren’t confident by the end of the lesson. As always, this is a new skill and the more we practise the better we will be.
Watch Miss Cook's video below that talks through exchange.
Once you have finished watching the video. Use the website that Miss Cook was using to have a go practically at the questions on the sheet.

Mrs Wells' group:
Today, you are learning how to count in our 10s.
Watch the videos below:
Now print out the number cards below. Can you order them from smallest to largest on the floor? Which number is the biggest? Which number is the smallest? What do you notice about the numbers?
Walk up and down your line of numbers saying the numbers out loud. Can you count them forwards? Can you count them backwards? Get your adult to take one of the numbers away. Can you tell them which number is missing? How do you know that is the missing number?
Re-watch the videos above, can you join in with them and work out which number will be next?

Well done if you said...
-
What is a rainforest?
-
Where can I find a rainforest?
-
What is the weather like in the rainforest?
-
Animals in the rainforest
-
Why are rainforests so important?
-
Interesting facts
Re-read through the WAGOLL from yesterday to remind yourself. Today we are going to be sorting information to go into each sub-heading.

Children’s Mental Health Week:
Today is…
What does the word ‘helpful’ mean?
It means you do things for other people or animals. You help them to the best of your ability and you will always try to help if someone asks or you can see someone needs help.
Think about all the things you do to help other people and animals. Your task is to write down something you have done for the last week to be helpful and most importantly how it made you feel. You might choose to draw pictures to go with each one or write it – it is up to you!
See my example below:
Tuesday |
I helped my Dad clear away the snow. |
Excited because I got to play in the snow and be helpful. |
Wednesday |
I helped Mrs Wells with a task at school. |
Proud because I was able to support my friend. |
Thursday |
I helped my mum cook the dinner. |
Happy because we did something together. |
Friday |
I tidied my classroom. |
Happy because my workspace was tidy. |
Saturday |
I dropped some shopping at my nan’s house. |
Happy because I knew I had cheered my nan up. |
Sunday |
I vacuumed around the house to help my mum with the cleaning. |
Useful because I had helped with the chores. |
Monday |
I helped a child with their reading. |
Proud because I had achieved something positive. |
Science:
This week, we are starting our new science topic all about our bodies. We will be doing the introduction to this lesson on zoom at 1:15pm. Today’s focus is on nutrition and what foods we need to eat to keep us healthy.
If you are unable to join our zoom, please watch the videos below.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zrffr82/articles/zppvv4j

Doodle:
As part of today’s learning, Miss Johnson and I would like you to log onto Doodle and complete the extras we have set for you. We have set work linked to the learning we are doing in school. We would like as many of you as possible to be in the green zone this week. Remember, you can go on Doodle at any point in the week to practice your Maths and English skills further. Can Year 3 win any of the Doodle certificates this week?

This week, we are going to be looking at subtraction in maths. We are going to recap what we already know about subtraction and then move on to looking at subtraction with exchange when taking away 2-digit numbers and 3-digit numbers. By the end of the week, we would like you be confident at subtracting with one exchange. We know you are up for this challenge.

PSHE:
This week, we are celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week. What did you learn from the assembly this morning?
Today is...
The theme for this year's Children's Mental Health Week is express yourself.
What does ‘express yourself’ mean?
‘Express yourself’ is about finding creative ways to share feelings, thoughts or ideas through things like art, writing, music, dance and doing things that make you feel good. It isn’t about being the best at something, it is about finding a way to show how you are feeling that can help you feel good about yourself.
