Friday 12th February

Good morning Year 1,

It’s Friday!  Start the day by watching the celebration assembly, year 3 will be sharing their amazing work on Rainforests.  Who will be the year 1 shooting stars? Will anyone get 25 merits?  Remember we are still giving merits out so why not share your work with us. Next week is half term so enjoy a well-earned rest!

We hope you all have a lovely holiday and a great day today!

Miss Young, Mrs Robinson and Miss Briggs

English

Today we will bring all that we have learnt this week together to write our dinosaur stories.  Watch the video link below to see how we can combine all the different parts to write the story.

Remember each sentence should include

  • A capital letter, full stop and finger spaces.
  • Start with a day of the week
  • Have a describing word (adjective)
  • Use the word and to extend the sentence.

We will also be looking to see if your story is presented neatly so formed your letters correctly.

Maths

Today we will be solving some division word problems.  Watch the video below to see how to do this. Look at the division cards below there are some written as word problems and some as a practical sharing activity.  Select the problems you feel your child is best suited to and work practically or by drawing pictures to help you solve them.

Challenge

Can you write the division some that goes with it?

lunchtime

Normally on the last day of half term we have reward time for all children who do not have behaviour points.  So, this afternoon is given to this.  In this time, you can choose something you like doing, whether this is playing with your favourite toys, watching a film, playing in the garden or making a cake.  It is your decision to make.  Celebrate all the hard work you have completed over the half term by rewarding yourself!

Thursday 11th February

Good morning! Happy Thursday!

Today we are going to be doing some English, Maths and RWI as usual. Then this afternoons lessons are Music and Science.

Hope you have a good day!

Miss Young, Mrs Robinson and Miss Briggs

English

Watch the video below about the wizard using adjectives. Which adjective was your favourite? I liked the word glistening to describe the snow.

Today we will be using our story plan to help us write sentences about each picture. Use the word document. The sentences have been started for you with On Monday… you should write a sentence for each day of the week saying where your dinosaur is and use an adjective to describe the place. E.g. On Wednesday he went to the hot, sandy beach.

Playtime

Maths

Begin by watching the video below reminding you of how to share equally between different amounts. Then practically complete the activity, using cubes, objects or food again to share the objects equally between the dinosaurs. There are sums on the work sheet provided, so remember to write down the answer!

RWI

Type in Google ‘RWI daily lesson on YouTube’ to access a new sound to learn, this is updated daily at 9:30am. Then choose either Set 1, Set 2 or Set 3 depending on your child’s reading level:

Music

This week we are going to continue our work on Timbre and think about the different timbres of instruments in the Orchestra.

First of all, I would like you to watch a short video that introduces the different instrument families of the orchestra. Click the link below then scroll down to Musical Menu: Instruments and click the second video.

Next, watch a short video of the BBC Philarmonic orchestra playing a piece called ‘Whistlestop tour of the Orchestra’. Listen to the different sounds that each instrument makes as they feature in the video. Do they belong to the String, Brass, Woodwind or percussion family?

Use the same link but click on the first video.

Science

This week we would like you to observe the birds that live in our local area. How many common birds can you name? Start by going through the Power point below to learn the names of different British birds. Then watch from the window, sitting quietly and see how many you can spot. Tick off any of the birds on the list that you can see. Then put the information into the block graph on the document below.  Remember to colour one block for every bird you see.

Wednesday 10th February

Good morning year 1, it was lovely to see so many of you yesterday in our zoom meeting, counting and dancing with us. We hope to see more of you next time.

Today we have English, Maths, RWI, DT and Handwriting.  We look forward to seeing the work you send us from today.

Have a good day!

Miss Young, Mrs Robinson and Miss Briggs

Story plan

Today we will be planning our story which we will write on Friday. Watch the video below which explains in more detail how to complete the plan.

In each box draw a picture of where your dinosaur will go. On the lines below write the day of the week and the place he/she goes. The days of the week are in the box for you to copy and there are some ideas of where your dinosaur might go too! Feel free to add your own place. J

Playtime

Maths

Play the game below and share the dog bones equally between the dogs.

Today we have more dividing for you to complete! Instead of saying shared by we can write a symbol like this ÷ . Watch the video below to find out more. This means divide. Use the sheet below (or make your own) to practically divide by 2. Write out the sums using the divide symbol.

RWI

Type in Google ‘RWI daily lesson on YouTube’ to access a new sound to learn, this is updated daily at 9:30am. Then choose either Set 1, Set 2 or Set 3 depending on your child’s reading level:

Set 1 - Children who are learning individual letter sounds.

Select 'Read Write Inc eBook library' and select the level (colour) your child is on. Pick a book you would like to read

Lunchtime

Today you will be making your own moving picture. Use the plan you made yesterday, create your dinosaur first and then use the relevant Power point below to remind yourself of how to make your moving picture. Remember it could have a flap, pop up, lever or spring. Send us a picture of your finished product if you can.

Handwriting

Watch the video link below showing you how to form the letters using the rhymes from RWI to help you.  Pick the letters that you struggle to form and practise these.  It is always a good idea to practise b, d and p as lots of us reverse these letters.  Also, the letters y and g as they have a tail that go below the line and lots of us often sit the whole letter on top of the line.  Remember the j and i have a small dot on top not a giant circle.

Play the phonic game (link below) to practise reading real and alien words.  Can you sort the words?

Tuesday 9th February

Good morning, Year 1. You will find our timetable for the day below with all the links you need to complete the tasks. We are still giving out merits and choosing shooting stars so be sure to send us your work if and when you can. Today we will be starting the day with a zoom meeting, we hope you will be able to join us.

Have a good day!

Miss Young, Mrs Robinson and Miss Briggs

Active Maths Zoom

At 9:30 we have our Active Maths Zoom lesson. We will be warming up our bodies by dancing and counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s!

English

This week we will be building up to writing our very own dinosaur story on Friday. There will be merits available for this so make sure you complete each activity as all of them will help you to write your story. Today we are going be using ‘and’ to make a sentence longer. Watch the BBC clip below about using conjunctions, then read the sentences on the word document. You need to make them longer by writing ‘and’ then adding some more information to the sentence. For example.

The bus is big and red.

The bus is big and it can go fast.

Playtime

Maths

Yesterday we were learning how to share objects equally into 2 groups. Watch the video below. Notice how Mrs Robinson is sharing the dinosaur eggs between the nests equally each time so they all have the same amount. Complete the activity and share the eggs between the nests. You can cut out the eggs or draw them if you prefer. Write the number of eggs in each nest in the circle.

Lunchtime

Today we would like you to plan your very own moving picture which you will be making tomorrow. So far, we have used a variety of mechanisms, pop up’s, levers, springs and flaps. Choose which mechanism you would like to make again. Then choose a dinosaur you are going to put on your picture. Draw a plan of your moving picture in the box and write a sentence to tell us which mechanism you have chosen and which part of the dinosaur will move.

First warm up your bodies with Joe Wicks using the link below.  Then look at the animal gymnastic activities below.  Can you move your body like each animal?  What is your favourite gymnastic movement?

Monday 8th February

Good morning! We hope you all had a nice weekend. This is our last week before we have a week off next week for half term. 5 more days to try your best and do some more amazing work! Don’t forget that if and when you can, send us your work so that we can add it to our new star on our class page called ‘Celebrating our work.’

So, let’s find out what work we have to do today.

Have a good day!

Mrs Robinson, Miss Young and Miss Briggs

English

Today we are going to be learning a new spelling rule. We are looking at changing singular words into plural. So, if we are talking about one pig we just say pig. However, if there is more than one we say pigs. BUT…when the word ends in a s, x, sh, ch, ss or z then we have to add es. E.g. bus -> buses. Watch the video below and the Powerpoint to explain in more detail. Then complete the activity to add the plurals to the words.

Playtime

Maths

This week we will be learning to divide. Divide means to share equally. Watch the video below to explain how we can practically share objects into groups so they all have the same amount. Then use cubes, objects, food to share the amount between the two groups. How many does each group have once you have shared them?
