Testing Rocks
This week, we have been testing rocks to see what properties they have. We tested them for durability (how easily they wear away), density (whether or not they float) and permeability (if they let water soak in). It was a fascinating experiment and really showed how different rocks can be, especially clay. We used this experiment to decide whether the rocks were igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic and then decided which rocks would be most useful for different purposes. We definitely decided that clay would be no good to build houses with, especially if it rained.
Stone Age Day
At the start of our exciting Stone Age topic, the children (and staff) went back in time to become cave boys and cave girls. The children hunted for food, painted cave walls and made some woolly mammoths. Lots of laughter and learning took place and the children all had a 'rocking' time.
Welcome to year 3
Year 3 began with some team games and challenges to get the children to develop their cooperation skills. It was great fun working together and we even got to see Mr Mac's wasp nest which was fascinating. A great start to year 3.
